Berkeley, California, high school teacher Shannon Williams is defending her right to moonlight as a prostitute.

Williams, who taught biology and environmental science for several years before becoming a field-trip coordinator last year, was arrested by police two weeks ago in an Oakland apartment. Police said she agreed to have sex with an undercover cop for $250 an hour to supplement her meager teacher's salary.

In an interview Tuesday, Williams said she never made jokes about her salary; that was the police.

More to the point, she said, she doesn't believe there's anything wrong with a woman choosing to provide sex for money. "I feel like a gay teacher must have felt 20 years ago after being outed," she said. "I feel that prostitution laws are dinosaurs. That they're similar to sodomy laws, and they will eventually be repealed."

The day after this story appeared, "A woman was arrested in front of the Oakland courthouse today when she took her top off at a raucous rally protesting the case against a Berkeley schoolteacher accused of engaging in prostitution." Another article about the case and rally reports that the flashing protester shouted "More boobs in public, less boobs in public office ... Consensual sex is not a crime" as officers escorted her away.

Jake Tapper reports on the Extreme Associates obscenity prosecution for ABC News. Last week Tapper appeared on ABC World News, Nightline and Good Morning America in the space of 24 hours to discuss the case. (There's a sidebar link to a video segment called "Primetime: Porn Uncovered," which might mean Primetime also covered the case last Thursday. Unfortunately, the video is available only to Realvideo Superpass subscribers, i.e. to nobody.) Adult Video News praises Tapper and ABC's coverage for framing the issues fairly and "asking the right questions."

The latest issue of Harper's reprints several cybersex prank transcripts which were originally posted by J-Dogg, aka Dr. Ninjaforkian, to the Pitchforkmedia message boards. Harper's doesn't put its content online, but you can read the collected J-Dogg cyber sessions here. Sort of Jerky Boys do cybersex, except they seem to be fictional rather than transcripts of actual pranks. Some of them are fucking hilarious.
