Arizona State University frat porn - Shane's World 29 controversy

The Shane's World porn video series is part of the gonzo "reality porn" genre in which pornstars interact with non-actors in real-life settings. Several installments have been shot on college campuses. The clunkily titled Shane's World 29: Frat Row Scavenger Hunt 3 was shot partly at Arizona State University, where pornstars lured fraternity members into erotic situations. When news of the video broke on campus in August, 2002, an absurd scandal ensued. The ASU administration disciplined several fraternities and students for supposedly harming the school's reputation.

Arizona State University may discipline student Brian Buck for showering with porn stars in his frat house, an event caught on camera for Shane's World 29: Frat Row Scavenger Hunt 3. At the local alt-weekly, Robert Nelson belittles the administration's hysterical overreaction.

ASU administrators don't appreciate that Brian and Calli just want to make ASU one of America's great party schools again.... Instead, ASU's administrators can't stop blithering sanctimoniously that rowdy partying will no longer be tolerated because ASU is now "a Research 1 university" -- not a party school. Which is geek-speak for the fact that ASU is now considered by some to be slightly above average. Whoopee.

Two weeks ago, ASU's new wallflower spaz of a president, Michael Crow, said he would do everything in his power to expedite the punishment of Brian Buck. Crow said he's talked to Janet Napolitano's office about what recourse he has, and said he felt confident he could quickly and legally rid the campus of Buck. Mike, word to the wise: Relax and shut your hysterical piehole. And don't be so proud of your ability to destroy the lives of faculty and students with the help of the Attorney General's Office.

Nelson also interviews pornstar Calli Cox about the ASU campus video shoot. "It sounded really different, really exciting. It was refreshing, because doing these movies can get sort of redundant after a while."

Brian Buck, the Arizona State student who showered with pornstars for the video Shane's World 29, became executive vice president of the student senate before the scandal began. The other student senators voted Tuesday to condemn his actions and ask him to step down, which he so far refuses to do. What a bunch of dweebs. (Sep 2002)

Arizona State University has announced punishments for Brian Buck, the student who showered with pornstars during a campus porn video shoot for Shane's World #29. The university didn't expel or suspend Buck, but imposed an array of lesser sanctions. The punishments include the scary thought-police requirement that Buck compose four letters of apology (even if he rightly believes he has nothing to apologize for) and a 20-page essay of "reflections on integrity" (even though he's displayed far more integrity than the petty bureaucrats passing judgment on him).
