LiesThe Korean film Lies opened in New York in late 2000, and has received limited release in a few other American cities. The film involves an affair between a 38-year-old married sculptor and a teenage schoolgirl, and more than half its running time consists of sexually explicit love scenes, including some sadomasochism and fetishism. Both the film and its source, the 1996 novel Tell Me a Lie, have faced censorship and legal action in South Korea; the uncut version of the film screened only once in its home country before being released in a heavily re-edited version. American audiences are seeing the original, uncut version. ARTICLES
