Major ruling in Acacia patent case

http://www.dazereader.com/24000466.htm The judge in the Acacia patent case has handed down a major ruling. Brandon at fightthepatent.com describes the ruling as "very bad news for Acacia's DMT patent" and promises details and commentary soon. If you happen to be a patent lawyer, you can read the full 40-page ruling (in PDF), technically known as a "Markman Order". The best I can make out: the judge rejected many of Acacia's key patent claims. (Background on the Acacia patent lawsuits in the Daze archives.)

Acacia stock had risen from a recent low of $5.11 in May to a closing of $6.79 on Friday. On Monday, it dropped to $6.25. Will be very interesting to see if the Markman ruling sparks a big sell-off.

Also see: "The Patent Profiteers", an article about Acacia in IEEE Spectrum.

UPDATE: Acacia stock opened Tuesday at $4.90, dropped as low as $3.45, then inched back up to around $4 as of noon EDT. So investors seem to agree that the Markman ruling damages Acacia's case.
