Indonesia may ban erotic dancing, public kissing

http://www.dazereader.com/24000129.htm Indonesia's parliament is weighing bans on erotic dancing and public kissing.

The bill proposes that anyone guilty of organizing a public display of erotic dancing be liable to a maximum 10 years in prison or a fine of one billion rupiah ($117 000), the Jakarta Post said.

Performing dances deemed erotic would be punishable by five years or a 250-million fine.

It is not clear if the introduction of the bill is related to recent controversy over the dance style of singer Inul Daratista, who rose to stardom thanks to her energetic hip gyrations.

Some Muslim leaders have criticised Inul's dances as erotic and urged a ban on her performances.

A couple caught kissing on the mouth in public could spend up to five years in jail or pay up to 250 million rupiah in fines, the Post said. It is unclear whether the ban would also apply to married couples.

The bill, which is awaiting government approval, also bans other public acts of indecency including nudity, masturbation and lewd gestures.
