Porn magazines in decline
Publishers, distributors and academics all agree that porn magazines are in decline, mostly due to competition from internet porn. Al Goldstein shut down Screw magazine and filed for bankruptcy last month. Penthouse has been on the verge of collapse all year. Larry Flynt says, "This past decade has been very, very bad for men's magazines and it could become worse," though Hustler has thrived by diversifying into video and internet porn. Journalism professor Samir Husni says, "The magazine may remain the cornerstone for the name brand, but in the future, the real money will be made elsewhere."
