Betty Dodson on the Vagina Monologues
Betty Dodson criticizes The Vagina Monologues both for its misrepresentation of her own Bodysex Workshops and for its pervasive anti-sex ideology. "That's the main problem with 'V-Day': Women end up celebrating sexual violence and not the creative or regenerative pleasures of erotic love. Ending violence is a worthy cause and I'm all for it. But consistently equating sex with violence offers no solution."
I was also disappointed with the Vagina Chronicles. She rails against women who shave their pubes saying that they only do it for their men and it's essentially paedophiliac--which I suppose is her experience--but that's just untrue. I would refer, as exhibit A, to an item you Evan, ran months ago written by a women who says she liked being shaved for her own personal reasons--not the least of which it made her feel more naked, thus, more exhibitionist when she was naked around others.
I personally know women like this. Also, when both the man and woman are shaved front-to-front copulation takes on a whole other level of intimacy, and, uh, feels great besides . . .
That's one thing off the top of my head but yea, ditto on the "Vagina Chronicles is Overrated" school. However, I do agree mightily that women should learn to love their vaginas. I know I do.
